We can now supply dimmable GU5.3 MR16 LED spot lights. That on it’s own is an announcement which we have wanted to make for some time. However, this is even more exciting – we can now offer our top of the range lamps, with output up to 720 lumens, in dimmable versions.
Dimmable 12 volt spot lights are installed practically everywhere and, to be honest, we have not been particularly happy with the LED replacement solutions which we were able to offer. Generally, replacing dimmable halogen GU5.3 lamps with dimmable LED required conversion to GU10 240 volt format. The range of dimmable GU10 lamps is more limited than the standard GU10 product line and we were not able to offer our most powerful lamps with dimming capability.
So, how have we done it? Well, when replacing a halogen 12 volt lamp with an LED equivalent, it is necessary to change the driver. This is the transformer, which takes the mains power supply and converts it to the appropriate supply for the lamp. Normally, there is one driver per lamp and it is situated in the roof space adjacent to the fitting. Our system works by supplying each LED lamp with a specially designed driver. By fitting this driver instead of a regular LED driver, our entire range of LED lamps become compatible with dimmer systems.
We will shortly be updating our web site with full details, including pricing and availability.
